The genes that everyone inherits in their DNA from each of their parents, is the manual for your cells to create and replicate to allow people’s bodies to function properly. A genetic disorder is when a mutation occurs inside a gene, which leads to deletion of the gene, chromosomal aberration and/or abnormal expression of the gene’s size. Three types of genetic disorders exist based on how many genes are affected by the mutation: Single-gene disorders, Chromosomal disorders and Complex disorders. There are also a few categories of disorders consisting of birth defects, chronic diseases, developmental problems, and sensory deficit diseases. There are limited ways to stop genetic disorders before giving birth, but with future advancements with genetic sequencing there may be viable options just around the corner. Here are a few lists on category of some of the more common genetic disorders.

As people better understand the complex relationships that genes have with themselves and the body, there will be an increase in the ability to detect and treat these genetic disorders. Most of these disorders have made great strides in progress over the past few decades and top researchers are making breakthroughs every day. The best thing that you can do if you are worried about yourself or your family is to discuss this with you doctor and they can help you with testing and whatever else you to require.
